Statement regarding FOP vs City of Norman

In response to today’s ruling regarding the Fraternal Order of Police vs City of Norman lawsuit in which the FOP alleges that the City violated the Open Meeting Act, FOI Oklahoma president Ted Streuli issues the following statement:

Freedom of Information Oklahoma is pleased that the Oklahoma Supreme Court found in favor of the plaintiff in this case. The justices found that “the language used in the agenda was deceptively vague and likely to mislead regarding the meeting and was therefore a willful violation of the Act.” They affirmed that the public has a right to be informed about what their local government is doing in a clear fashion allowing the average person to understand what they're up to. In this case, Norman city leaders failed to keep it clear enough and the court ruled accordingly.

Government is always of the people, and the people are entitled to know how those in leadership positions are acting on their behalf at all times
